What do want out of life? The easy way to answer this is find out what fulfills you.
In my case, writing music and seeing it go from scribbles on the paper all the way to a completed song. Then of course seeing it on iTunes and the other download sites.
I’m very passionate about the videos we make as well. In the beginning, I didn’t know what I was doing at all. That quickly changed by simply doing them.
Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy going on vacations with my wife and seeing at least one different country a year. However, there’s nothing like accomplishing things you want to accomplish. There’s no feeling like it.
Plans for 2018
I have big plans for 2018 since I really want to make next year special. We’ll be releasing one single a month on top of the Classical EP.
Then in 2019, we’ll release a full-length album with 12 songs. Most of them are already recorded. We just have to add orchestrations and vocals.
No, I don’t have a singer lined up yet. I will though write all the lyrics. And yes, most of them are already done.
Anyways, back to 2018. You’ll recognize the lead in next year’s Halloween video because she’s been in more than one Astral Eyes videos. So that narrows it down to four people.
I said we’ll be releasing one single a month. I take our album art seriously. That means hiring some artists too. I may do a few of them because I’d love to give my graphic design skills a little bit of work.
I’m starting to “get” horror
I’m starting to understand writer’s attractions to horror. It’s a completely different feeling, and you’re constantly having to think of original ideas. Some folks become quite resistant to scares because they’ve seen it all before.
So jump scares don’t always work. Neither does using the same monsters everyone else has already used. Unless you can figure out a way to do them originally.
Gore bores me, so I don’t rely on gore for scare tactics. I’ve talked earlier about how my mother worked in hospitals so I’ve heard it all.
Horror is also fun to work with because people don’t know what to expect when it comes to the music. I wrote a few orchestrations for the 2017 Halloween piece. They’re nothing special; just orchestrations to coincide with what you saw on the screen.
Anyways, if you haven’t seen it yet, watch the 2017 Halloween video. The 2018 one will have a bigger budget. And I’ll also have more time for planning. I’m still quite pleased with how the 2017 one turned out.
