“But I want nice shit”

This is a continuation of my last post about buying and holding the DOW. Young people often make the mistake of trying to impress their friends instead of creating investment income.

You have the best possible opportunity to make money. It’s called time. Older people do not have that. For older people, time is running out.

Two biggest problems

The two biggest problems young people have financially (assuming you have a job) is not managing your money because you’re greedy, or not managing your money because you want to impress your peers. You’ll buy a brand new flashy car or SUV instead of putting money into a business or investments.

I won’t go into greed because greed is a personal fault you either have or you don’t. Of course you can control it if you choose to.

But I do want to talk about trying to keep up with your peers. The need to be liked is a weakness. That also includes the need to impress other people.

I never gave a flying fuck if people liked me or not. What’s really cool about that is that it does wonders with women. I’ve never had problems with women because I’ve never tried to impress them. I’m me, and if you have a problem with that, that’s your problem, not mine.

I’ve always driven Saturns. They’re spectacular cars. My first Saturn cost me $12,500 and I paid it off in three years. I needed to build my credit score; that’s the only reason I bought a new car. Otherwise, I’d advice against buying a new car.

It lasted for 168,000 miles before the transmission started to go bad. Other than that, it had no problems whatsoever. I changed the oil, the tires, and the windshield wipers. That’s it. So I replaced it with another Saturn.

The money I saved because I didn’t want nice shit…

…I put in stocks and real estate. I drive my cars into the ground. I’ve never needed to impress women with cars because I have a personality. If you think you need to impress women with cars, then you should really be working on your skill sets and your personality instead.

Now, I get it. Some folks love nice cars. My advice for them is to reward yourself with a brand new nice car once you build a pretty fat nest.

Note my words there – reward yourself. That means, you better accomplish something awesome first.

Why you need to think long term

Think to yourself – what would the 40-year-old version of you want you to do? You may live a very long time. I know young people think they got an infinite amount of time, but you don’t. You need to start building wealth in your 20s. That means you should either a) start building a business, b) get really good at your job and put money aside in investments.

Ideally, you should be doing both. But not everyone can build a business. I can’t tell you how to build one because I’ve never built a successful one. I’d be talking out of my ass, and if you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you’ll know one of my biggest pet peeves is when people talk out of their ass.

I can tell you how to make investment money though because I’ve been outstanding at it.

My wife bugged me to travel. She said that we have tons of money now. So, we need to start appreciating it. And you know what? She’s right.

I could buy a Ferrari. Or, I could take my wife lots of places. Since I can’t take a Ferrari to my death bed, I decided on the latter. (I could however take memories of travel to my death bed).

So here’s my past few years:

It doesn’t end there. Later on this year, we have more videos coming up. I’ll be in the studio a lot. And I’ll be taking my wife and some friends and possibly family to New Zealand and Australia.

Next year, we’re going to shoot a music video in Italy and/or Croatia. We’ll be hitting both countries. We’ll actually be shooting several music videos. That’s just the one out of the country.

And we’ll be releasing our second album. If you haven’t heard the Darvulia single, you really need to hear it.

The year after that, we’ll be releasing my masterpiece video, shot in the Caribbean. I talked to my scuba team a few nights ago and we already made plans.

The lead actress will be a dear friend of mine who actually sang in the band I was in prior to Astral Eyes.

And why am I telling you all this?

This is what happens when you spend your twenties and thirties investing in stocks and real estate. I’m in my forties and I’m pretty set.

I’ll be able to retire before I hit fifty. Every year, my wife and I leave the country and explore a place we haven’t been to before. If we get our music sales up, we’ll be touring as well.

We got a great lifestyle. So can you.

This isn’t about me. This is about you. I’m telling you exactly what I did to have a comfortable forties.

I used compound interest from my investments. In my twenties, I was all stock and real estate. There’s no reason whatsoever to hold bonds. Bonds are way too conservative for your twenties.

The formula is simple. Let me know if you have any questions.
