Musicians – I want you to succeed

Calling all starving musicians out there – I want you to succeed. Your success can only be a good thing for me.

Let’s just say you and I become friends online first, then meet in real life and we really hit it off. Then you go out and create an album and it goes Gold. Do you think I’m going to be jealous of your success? Of course not. Guess what – if you and I are truly friends, it can only benefit me. You might decide you want to tour with us. Or we can share contacts. Or other doors will open for us. I want you to succeed because your success will only help us.

That’s one reason I write articles like Persistence is the key to success. I want you to read them and take them seriously. I want you to succeed by being persistent, to constantly create, and to achieve what you were meant to achieve.

Look. Long story short, we no longer have any label mates. We lost them because they gave up. They lost my label money and now we’re alone. We got no one to tour with, literally. Right now, we could use some friendly bands.

I share everything I know, hoping that someone will come along and it will be useful. Even if you end up doing exactly what we’re doing, that’s fine. We could use the competition. I’m not intimated by competition. I almost played semi-pro football. I’m used to fighting hard, giving everything I got. I’m tough as nails, both mentally and physically. I don’t give up. Ever.

If you read articles like my Orchestrating for Metal – Musical dynamics and get something out of them, that’s great. Just by writing these articles, it reinforces what I’ve learned. The repetition helps me learn big time.

Plus, when it comes down to it, if you know what I know, that forces me to learn more. So that will directly force me to hit the books harder, to not slack.

Jealousy is a loser mentality

These are all things losers don’t understand. Losers get jealous easily. Instead of trying to improve themselves, losers want to drag others down. That’s such a loser mentality. It’s simply pathetic.

We have the opposite mentality. We want allies, and we want our allies to achieve big time. If we’re still struggling and you go multi-platinum, great! Invite us to your parties. I want to meet winners. I want to be surrounded by winners. If nothing else, being surrounded by winners, you learn how to do things correctly. You get good advice instead of the shitty ass advice losers love to hand out.

Now, I’m talking from a musician’s perspective. I’m sure this could apply to pretty much anything.

So yes, I want you to succeed. When you do, take us with you. Let us pick your brains. Let us know what you did and how you did it. And we’ll make it up to you when we succeed, because it’s not an “if,” it’s a “when.”
