Finding peace in the Botanical Gardens

Sometimes I get writer’s block. Or sometimes, the piece I’m working on is complete shit and ends up in the trash. When either happens, I hit the Botanical Gardens. They’re great for renewing.

I just go there and think. Sometimes a melody develops. Sometimes it doesn’t. But regardless, it’s great for renewal.

The stuff we do is way more complex than the brain dead pop music that’s being shoved down your ears on a daily basis. People complain that sales are down. Well, have a better product to sell.

I don’t believe in humility. I believe in honesty. I have every intention of bringing our fans the best music written today, bar none. Anything less than the best is because we let you down.

Sound bold? Well, ask any NFL player what their goal is. NONE of them will tell you something like “I want to get more yards than I did last year,” or “I want to block better than I did last year.” Every single player in the NFL wants to be on the team that wins the Super Bowl. Every. Single. One.

Same with us. I honestly don’t care if we’re the best selling. There’s a difference between the best and the best selling. Adele can have that crown. She pours her heart out. More power to her. That’s not us.

We’re creating something a little bit deeper; something that is supposed to last. We’re heading in the direction of high art, not pop art. HUGE difference. Listen to the best selling pop album that’s out today. I have no idea what it is, but whatever it is, give it a listen. Then listen to Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony. Then listen to Another Sacrifice Gone Wrong. You’ll notice that our album is WAY closer to the latter than the former. Hell, I’ll be more than happy to share the notations.

Back to the Botanical Gardens

So anyways, that’s where the Gardens come in. I get overworked. I lose sleep. I’ll stay up all night working on a string quartet. So I come to the Botanical Gardens for peace.

OK, not the best pictures, but here are a few of them.
