An above and beyond mentality

an above and beyond mentality has done wonders for us

Let’s talk about an above and beyond mentality. This morning, I wanted to do 5 sets of curls and 150 pushups. So instead, I did 5 sets of curls and 165 pushups. Why? Because I have an above and beyond mentality.

That can go for anything. It especially works in college.

In college, I’d set a goal like reading and taking notes on one chapter for Biology. Instead, I’d do one chapter plus go to the next significant break. That’s an example of above and beyond in school.

Unfortunately, I didn’t apply this to my math classes. No coincidence I didn’t fare as well in math as I did in my other classes. Looking back, that was a mistake.

It really applies to music. Imagine that you’re a musician and since you have to have a piece ready for performance in one month, you better be solid with it. So you decide to practice it ten times a day. Instead, when it’s time to practice, you practice it eleven.

With a mentality like that, you’ll improve faster than someone without that mentality.

Above and beyond can be applied for anything

One of my goals on this blog is to average an article a day. In the archives section, you can see that I didn’t start taking this blog seriously until December 2016. Since then however, I’ve been averaging well above and beyond an article a day.

I would love to be known as a writer as well as a musician/composer. In order to become a writer, obviously, one must first write. Of course, writing daily is more than likely the best thing you can possibly do if you plan on being a writer.

When I say this mentality applies to anything, I really mean it. Intermittent fasting has done wonders for my body. I’m in better shape than I’ve been since my 20s when I was trying to play semi-pro football. And that was almost 25 years ago!

When I say “don’t eat until 11AM,” sometimes I’ll stretch that out until noon. It works. It gives my body an extra hour to digest last night’s feast.

I’ve cut out snacking completely and only eat two meals a day. So that extra hour can make a difference.

What about you?

What do you want to improve in your life? And, how can you apply an above and beyond mentality to it?
